How can we return to the grounding of the primal through walking\, observing\, mark making\, moving\, and conversing? \nThis event is a montage of excursions with the tactile and with the tangible. Interdisciplinary structures will facilitate a melding of approaches that support our related processes … We share a collective focus\, bringing the physical and improvisational through interludes of collective play. \nMarch 24 \n\n6:30–9:30 pm: In conversation with Slavko Djuric\, Asuka Ohsawa\, and Heidi Neilson\n\nMarch 25 \n\n12:30–4 pm: Installation and prompt-based interactions; dancers and musicians\, 2–3 pm\n\nBoth events take place at FIT’s John E. At the end of each round\, the judges will vote for their favorite pieces of art in real time. The top artists will advance to the final round and battle it out for the championship. One-of-a-kind works of art will be available for auction following the event. SUMMARY:'NEGRITA' Documentary Screening with Q&A
DESCRIPTION:NEGRITA\, the debut documentary film from director Magdalena Albizu\, interrogates the cultural prejudice and presumptions surrounding the lives of Afro-Latina women in America. Albizu\, a self-described negrita\, explores an unconscious ideology of anti-Blackness in which both American and Latino cultures perpetuate a false narrative of Black as undesirable otherness. Through family pictures\, childhood videos\, and frank conversations with family members\, scholars\, and Latinas\, NEGRITA uses the director’s own personal history to illuminate the larger tapestry of shared experiences throughout the Black and Latino community. Hand in hand with women from the Dominican Republic\, Puerto Rico\, Honduras\, and Panama\, Albizu and her subjects collectively confront their own Black identities\, empowering themselves as Afro-Latinas. \nThis event is part of this year’s Civility Week activities. DESCRIPTION:FIT DTech Lab partners with Digital Fashion Week to bring the Phygital Runway show with the (world’s first ever) live motion capture hologram courtesy of Future Front Row. \n​Fashion has always been more than the latest silhouette\, it is an art form that draws on cultural texture overlaid with eclectic creative and technical skills to support self-expression – the unique story of each individual. Layering the digital and physical allows us more rich and nuanced opportunities to tell a brand story. \n​A hologram runway show redefines expectations as an immersion-first path forward for the fashion industry. The giant digital avatars simulate the fluid movements of models via real time motion capture on the runway. \n​The Phygital runway explores a brand’s strategic journey exhibiting simultaneous digital and physical fashion in a seamless layered experience.
