DESCRIPTION:The Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology will host Leslie Short on Thursday\, March 25\, for a Dean’s Forum\, titled “‪Power\, Privilege and Support: Leadership\, Company Culture\, Representation and Building a Business‬.” Short will be joining to promote discussion around strategies to implement change for inclusivity and accountability among brands and companies. The free event will be moderated by Advertising and Marketing Communications Assistant Professor Elena Romero. ‬ \nA copy of Short’s new book\, Expand Beyond Your Current Culture: Diversity and Inclusion for CEOs and Leadership\, will be raffled to one attendee\, and the book can be purchased via Barnes & Noble at FIT. All books purchased from the Barnes & Noble website will be signed. \nLeslie Short is an entrepreneur\, founder\, activist\, and conflict and transformational coach. She is the CEO and president of The Cavu Group\, which advises companies and organizations of strategies to expand their internal culture through a lens of Diversity & Inclusion\, as well as the owner of K.I.M. DESCRIPTION:The United States Fashion Industry Association (USFIA) and the American Import Shippers Association (AISA) hold the 31st Annual Apparel Importers Trade and Transportation Conference at FIT where they will discuss the trade\, transportation\, and compliance challenges facing fashion brands and retailers today. The Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology hosts this year’s conference. \nTopics at the conference range from current issues in transportation and trade policy\, to sustainability\, to the outlook on global sourcing\, and more. Click here for the full agenda.  \nUSFIA is dedicated to expanding and supporting global trade in the fashion industry. The organization works to find opportunities to eliminate tariffs\, open markets\, to expand activities with U.S. Customs and Trusted Trader Programs\, and to provide resources to help fashion brands\, retailers\, and importers source merchandise in cost-effective\, efficient\, and ethical ways. It is headquartered in Washington\, D.C. and engages with the Trump administration\, Congress\, the WTO and other governing bodies around the world to support its members’ policy priorities. DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, November 15\, the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology Dean’s Forum will be The Business of Curves: Fashion’s Future\, featuring industry pioneers and visionaries Emme\, Susan Moses\, and Catherine Schuller. This groundbreaking event will highlight the extraordinary growth and expansion of the plus-size fashion marketplace. The forum is designed to introduce and encourage Business and Technology students to think about the business of design with integrity and high style for all women\, to eliminate the dearth of options still faced by this demographic\, and to embrace the concept that curvy women are glamorous\, fashion forward\, and a highly lucrative\, untapped market. Fern Mallis\, creator of New York Fashion Week\, will moderate the presentation and question-and-answer session. The Business of Curves: Fashion’s Future\, heavily supported by fashion and beauty brands\, modeling agencies and retailers\, will also feature a video presentation\, fashion show\, and exhibition.   \nAbout the Presenters\nEmme\, known as the first plus-size supermodel\, is a five-time author\, former television show host\, and founder of Fashion Without Limits\, a design initiative promoting the creation of size 12 and up designs. Celebrity stylist Susan Moses is the author of The Art of Dressing Curves\, touted as the plus-size fashion bible by InStyle magazine. Her talent has been showcased on red carpets from the Oscars to the Grammys\, in print and television advertising and a host of magazines. Catherine Schuller is a former model; image consultant; curator of Runway the Real Way\, a monthly\, diverse fashion event; and an instructor for FIT’s Petites and Plus Size Continuing Education Studies. \nSpecial Guest Moderator\nFern Mallis is the award-winning creator of New York Fashion Week. She has also been called an industry titan\, doyenne and the Godmother of Fashion. As the creator and host of the premiere conversation’s series Fashion Icons w/Fern Mallis at New York’s prestigious 92nd Street Y\, Mallis has assembled and interviewed a stellar roster of fashion insiders.
