SUMMARY:Fashion Design AAS Exhibition: Evolution — Opens
DESCRIPTION:Illustration by Janelle Lee.\nDecember 11\, 2025–January 11\, 2026\nArt and Design Gallery \nEvolution is the fall/winter Fashion Design AAS exhibition\, exploring the natural cycle of fashion through a floral lens. For this showcase\, students delve into the theme of evolution—from the seed of a concept to the buds of growth\, from the blossoms of creativity to the final bloom of completion. Each phase of their process reflects change\, transformation\, and renewal. \nIn the spirit of collaboration\, students from the Illustration program interpret transformation through fashion illustrations\, while students from Photography and Related Media capture moments of becoming—documenting their peers in the Fashion Design AAS program as they bring new visions to life. \nConception\, iteration\, and creation—Evolution celebrates fashion’s continual\, ever-unfolding movement forward\, shaped by growth and renewal. \nThis exhibition is organized by the Fashion Design AAS Exhibition Committee\, in collaboration with Dan Shefelman\, chair of Illustration and Interactive Media\, and Allison Wade Wermager\, chair of Photography. \nThis exhibition is free and open to the public.   \n

SUMMARY:Globally Connected @ FIT: Commemorating the U.N. at 80: Hand-Printed Scarves by FIT Textile/Surface Design Students
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virtual presentation by BFA students from the Textile/Surface Design program who will introduce us to their personal and innovative design concepts for hand screen-printed commemorative scarves—each one a wearable reminder of the significance of the U.N. charter 80 years after its signing. \nThey were created in the FIT course TD 361 Screen Printing Scarves: A Global Perspective taught by Professor Susanne Goetz\, which approaches scarves as more than just a decorative accessory but as a powerful medium for self-expression\, cultural identity\, and social commentary. The students researched the diverse meanings and uses of scarves in specific historical\, geographic\, and cultural contexts and studied historic and contemporary references. \nThe scarves will be exhibited at the United Nations\, December 2–30\, 2025\, in the Lobby of the Albano Building\, 305 East 46th St.\, and at FIT in the Feldman Lobby Jan. 21–Feb. 22\, 2026. \nThe exhibitions feature work by the following students: \nMaliha Ayaz\, Nur Balci\, Maguy Berry\, Sofia Bertoletti-Phares\, Alice Chekunova\, Hazel Choi\, Mehreen Farihah Kha\, Arda Hajjar\, Sophia Herrera\, Sumbhav Jain\, Anagha Kamlapurkar\, Sabrina Korompis\, Lesly Lozano\, Kornilia Makrygeorgou\, Kayla Mantell\, Amayah Meas\, Vrushti Mehta\, Nana Osako\, Julia Plante\, Giovanna Ricci\, Alexis Ridge\, Toby Wyman \nProfessor Susanne Goetz is the chair of the Textile/Surface Design Department. She has international experience in printed textile design\, sustainable textiles\, and artisanship\, with a focus on digital and traditional approaches to design and production. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on textile biomaterials and global sustainable design practices. \nGlobally Connected @ FIT is hosted by the Office of International Programs\, History of Art\, and the Cultural Fellows. \nThis virtual event is free and open to the public.  \n REGISTER FOR THIS GLOBALLY CONNECTED EVENT
