SUMMARY:World Affairs Lecture Series: From the Individual to the Collective: A Search for Identity\, with Rania Matar
DESCRIPTION:Rania Matar. Photo by Helena Goessens. Aya (the Eye)\, Gemmayze\, Beirut\, Lebanon. 2022. Photo by Rania Matar. Juliette (Mirror)\, Achrafieh\, Beirut\, Lebanon. 2024. Photo by Rania Matar. \nIn this virtual World Affairs Lecture\, Rania Matar will be in conversation with Dr. Souzeina Mushtaq\, assistant professor of Communication and Media Studies at University of Wisconsin–River Falls\, on the topic of “From the Individual to the Collective: A Search for Identity.” \nRania Matar has dedicated her photographic practice to exploring deeply personal narratives\, drawing upon her multifaceted cultural background and cross-cultural experiences as a Lebanese-born Palestinian-American artist and mother. Her work explores issues of individual and collective identity\, often through photographs of girls and women in the United States and the Middle East. Working in collaboration with her subjects to create intimate\, often emotionally charged portraits\, her work highlights transcendent human experiences and emphasizes underlying similarities rather than apparent differences.  In doing so\, her work provides insight into the complexity of women’s inner lives and relationships. An accomplished artist\, Matar was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2018. \nThe Department of Social Sciences’ World Affairs Lecture Series fulfills FIT’s mission to foster an understanding of diverse cultures and politics within the international as well as domestic perspectives. It also embraces\, supports\, and expands upon the president’s campuswide initiative on civility. \nJoin using this webinar link: \nhttps://fitnyc.webex.com/fitnyc/j.php?MTID=ma7c936c4a07a312ddb11dd6d110e3862 \nWebinar number: 2631 488 9150\nWebinar password: fitnyc (348692 when dialing from a phone or video system) \nOr join by phone: \n+1-646-992-2010 United States Toll (New York City)\nAccess code: 263 148 89150 \nThis virtual event is free and open to the public; join using the Webex link and use the password fitnyc.

SUMMARY:Emerging Technology Faculty Workshop: Virtual Beings and Motion Capture
DESCRIPTION:Meet your digital presenter—designed by you\, animated by your face and your movement\, all from a phone. We’ll help you build a MetaHuman\, capture a short performance\, and assemble a tiny scene that feels alive. No coding: just clear steps\, a few buttons\, and some theater-class tips on framing and voice. You’ll see how a smile or a nod reads on camera\, how a light can flatter\, and how a few edits make it sing. \nWe’ll also keep you safe: consent\, likeness\, and storage explained simply with ready-to-use forms. Think of it as a miniature studio session with a digital actor you control. You’ll export a 20–40 second clip that’s showcase-ready—and a workflow you can repeat. \nThis event is for FIT faculty only.  \n RSVP FOR THE SEPT. 25 SESSION\n  \nNote: This workshop is also offered on Oct. 16\, at 4 pm.
