DESCRIPTION:Sindiso Khumalo\, from the Minty Collection\, spring 2021\, South Africa.\nPlease join us for a virtual talk about traditional and modern textiles in South Africa\, featuring: \nElizabeth Way is curator of Costume and Accessories at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology\, where her recent exhibitions include Fresh\, Fly\, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style (2023)\, Food & Fashion (2023)\, and Africa’s Fashion Diaspora (on view through December 29\, 2024). \nLorenza Wong is an adjunct professor in Textiles Development and Marketing\, and leader in fashion and apparel with 30 years of experience. She is bringing a group of FIT students to South Africa in June 2025\, TS275: Farm to Fabric: South Africa. \nBupe Mucheka is an international student from Johannesburg\, South Africa\, and Lusaka\, Zambia. Her major is Advertising and Marketing Communications AAS ‘24. DESCRIPTION:November 7–December 1\, 2024\nArt and Design Gallery \nLighted Earth is a collaboration between Graphic Design students at FIT and jewelry design students at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe\, New Mexico. \nThe exhibition features student projects from IAIA’s jewelry class and will be shown alongside a documentary film being made by the film department at AIA that includes student interviews and insights on the collections from IAIA jewelry design faculty. FIT Graphic Design students developed the identity and interpretive materials for the exhibition. \nAbout the Art and Design Gallery \nThe Art and Design Gallery brings together the work of FIT students\, faculty\, alumni\, and invited outside artists in every exhibition. The gallery\, located in the glass-walled lobby of FIT’s Pomerantz Center\, is a window into the college and a window out\, serving as a space to foster learning and innovation. \nThe gallery is open 9 am to 5 pm daily. \nThis exhibition is free and open to the public.

More than 50 years after their breakup\, the band’s style continues to inspire designers\, including Thom Browne\, John Varvatos\, Anna Sui\, Rei Kawakubo\, Tom Ford\, Alessandro Michele\, and Stella McCartney.
