SUMMARY:Exhibition: Pattern\, the Grid\, and Other Systems — Closes
DESCRIPTION:October 27–December 3\, 2023\nArt and Design Gallery \nCurated by FIT Associate Professor of Fine Arts Julia Jacquette\, this exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology features work that utilizes and explores all aspects of repetition and pattern. \nPattern is often thought of in terms of art and design: the repetition of shape in surface design. But the definition of pattern can be even more expansive: It’s a regularity or repetition in the world in general. It includes the repetition of abstract ideas as well as form. \nPattern\, the Grid\, and Other Systems will include two-dimensional\, three-dimensional\, and time-based artwork from FIT faculty\, students\, and distinguished alumni\, as well as from guest artists. In addition\, panel discussions and talks by participating artists and guest lecturers will take place during the run of the exhibition. \nFeatured Artists:\nAvantika Bawa\, Rufina Bazlova\, Susan Daykin\, Oasa DuVerney\, Abigail DeVille\, Carla Edwards\, Anne Finkelstein\, Kathleen Granados\, Haley Hayden\, Peter Hoffmeister\, Karl Jensen\, Ruth Jeyaveeran\, Nomi Kleinman\, Joyce Kozloff\, Mark Kurdziel\, Marie Lorenz\, Nontsikelelo Mutiti\, John O’Connor\, Stephanie Pierce\, Lobsang Tsewang\, Maxim Tyminko\, Jessica Wynne\, Farangiz Yusupova\, Joseph Zutelgte\, plus FIT students to be announced. \nThe exhibition will be on display October 27 through December 3 in FIT’s Art and Design Gallery\, located at the northwest corner of West 27th Street and Seventh Avenue in New York City. \n\nAbout the Art and Design Gallery \nThe Art and Design Gallery brings together the work of FIT students\, faculty\, alumni\, and invited r outside artists in every exhibition. The gallery\, located in the glass-walled lobby of FIT’s Pomerantz Center\, is a window into the college and a window out\, serving as a space to foster learning and innovation. \nThe gallery is open 9 am to 5 pm daily. \nThis exhibition is free and open to the public.
