SUMMARY:Exhibition: Halston and Ultrasuede: A Perfect FIT — Closes
DESCRIPTION:June 15–July 16\, 2023\nArt and Design Gallery\, Back Gallery \nThe exhibition showcases student designs from the 2023 With Love Halston x FIT competition and a curated selection of Halston pieces from Fashion Design professor Michael Kaye’s private collection. It juxtaposes eight winning student garments with historical representations of original Halston designs. The exhibition also includes Ultrasuede garments from Kaye’s collection\, highlighting key Halston design concepts such as the paper bag skirt and the rock ’n’ roll chore jacket.  \nThe display features a strong presence in menswear and showcases Halston’s brilliance in various categories like luggage\, fragrance\, handbags\, and accessories. Visual imagery accompanies the iconic items on display. Also on display are paintings by contemporary artist Sue Muskat. \nThe student winners:  \n\nFirst place: Nuo Cheng \nSecond place: Cher Mouradzadegun \nThird place: Daniel Bochkov \n\nAdditional participating student designers: Alexandra Riascos\, Kayla Custis\, Millie Ortiz\, Miao Lin\, and Kenisha Seth \nContest administrator and curatorial advisor: Michael Kaye\, professor of Fashion Design\, and fashion designer

DESCRIPTION:June 15–July 16\, 2023\nArt and Design Gallery\, Lobby \nMillinery at FIT celebrates the art of hat-making. Since 1944\, FIT has nurtured a passion for hats\, with students mastering various styles\, from fashionable felt hats to exquisite fur pieces. The program includes men’s hats\, bridal headpieces\, and weather-appropriate headwear. In the late 1970s\, millinery became a part of FIT’s curriculum\, led by renowned milliners. This program has boosted the hat-making industry in New York City and nationwide. \nGraduates excel as entrepreneurs\, designers\, and creators of headwear for theater and dance. They are known for crafting exceptional hats for editorial shoots and personal use. This exhibition showcases the talent of over 40 alumni milliners\, offering a glimpse into their styles and techniques.
