SUMMARY:Fashion Culture: Styled for Survival: How Music and Fashion Converge
DESCRIPTION:Africa’s Fashion Diaspora installation view\nMusic and fashion have inspired each other through the ages\, but how has that relationship aided in the preservation of culture and the development of identity? This dive into the intentional connections between sound and attire involves an exploration of Black dandyism and more. \nPanelists are: \n\nMonica Miller\, chair and professor of Africana studies at Barnard College\, Columbia University;\nLana Turner\, historian and fashion icon; and\nDr. Kendall Williams\, steel-pan player and composer.\n\nElizabeth Way\, The Museum at FIT’s curator of costume and accessories\, will moderate. \nThis event is organized in collaboration with the New York Philharmonic. \nFashion Culture programs are organized by The Museum at FIT to provide new perspectives on the culture of fashion. All programs are free unless otherwise indicated. However\, reservations are strongly encouraged\, as space is limited. See a full calendar of spring 2025 Fashion Culture Program events on the museum website. \nThis event is free and open to the public; REGISTER HERE.
