SUMMARY:Fashion Culture: Make It Ours: Crashing the Gates of Culture with Virgil Abloh
DESCRIPTION:Cover of Make It Ours: Crashing the Gates of Culture with Virgil Abloh. Courtesy of Penguin Random House LLC.\nRobin Givhan\, the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize for criticism\, presents her new book\, Make It Ours: Crashing the Gates of Culture with Virgil Abloh. Appointed as head of menswear for Louis Vuitton in 2018\, Abloh was the first Black designer to serve as artistic director in the brand’s 164-year history. Givhan’s book recounts a young man’s rise amid a cultural moment that would upend a century’s worth of ideas about luxury and taste. Robin Givhan is the Washington Post‘s senior critic-at-large\, writing about politics\, race\, and the arts. A book signing follows the event. \nFashion Culture programs are organized by The Museum at FIT to provide new perspectives on the culture of fashion. All programs are free unless otherwise indicated. However\, reservations are strongly encouraged\, as space is limited. See a full calendar of fall 2025 Fashion Culture Program events on the museum website. \nThis event is free and open to the public.  \n REGISTER

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Being Hyper Human — Closes
DESCRIPTION:Niyosha Bhagat Malcolm Sales Geet Karthik \nJune 7–September 3\, 2025\nArt and Design Gallery \nBeing Hyper Human is a collaborative exhibition that brings together photography and video works by students\, alumni\, and faculty from Fashion Institute of Technology and Srishti Manipal Institute of Art\, Design\, and Technology (SMI) in Bengaluru\, India. \nIn more ways than one\, our worlds are closer than ever. We encounter images of distant places directly in the palm of our hands. Our sense of time oscillates between lived experience and its representation on our screens. Increasingly\, we seek the image of reality more than reality itself. Photography plays a pivotal role in this flattening of the world—where performing for the camera becomes as ordinary as observing through it. With the rise of digital and social media platforms\, we often have to become images before we can connect with others. This exhibition reflects on what it means to inhabit this hyper-image world\, presenting works that examine our deepening entanglement with images: What relationship do we have with images of ourselves? What meanings of the present are generated by looking at them? Why are we unsettled when reality doesn’t match its image? And\, what becomes of our being if being human is increasingly tagged to an image? \nBeing Hyper Human is on view at the Art and Design Gallery from June 7 through September 3\, 2025. \nParticipating artists from FIT and SMI: \nMia Baric (FIT BFA 2027)\nMihika Baruah (SMI BFA 2027)\nNiyosha Bhagat (SMI BDes 2027)\nKiley Cacace (FIT BFA 2027)\nAbbygail Coston (FIT BFA 2024)\nNafisah Crumity (FIT BFA 2024)\nZion DoucettPerry (FIT BFA 2026)\nZoya RaZaiba Hussain (FIT AAS 2024)\nAngelina Jairam (FIT BFA 2027)\nGeet Karthik (SMI BFA 2027)\nSanath Kumar (SMI MDes 2026 )\nHarini MS (SMI MDes 2026 )\nNina Perricone (FIT BFA 2026)\nKenya Pinos (FIT BFA 2024)\nCristina Rosario (FIT BFA 2027)\nNaomi Simone Schulz (FIT BFA 2026)\nMalcolm Sales (FIT BFA 2024)\nMegha Singha (SMI)\nKritika Srivastava (SMI)\nSiri Sruthi Udayaravi (SMI BFA 2026)\nSrujan Zope (SMI) \nProfessors and organizers: \nBrian Emery\, FIT\nBrad Paris\, FIT\nMahesh Bhat\, SMI\nJatin Gulati\, SMI

SUMMARY:Emerging Technology Faculty Workshop: AI Prompt Engineering
DESCRIPTION:Step into a studio where a prompt\, a doodle\, or a quick photo can become a 3D object in hours. We’ll guide you through friendly\, AI-assisted tools that generate multiple options so you can follow your taste\, not a manual. We’ll show how to preview on a phone and share with a link. Want it on a pedestal? We’ll walk you through a painless print workflow with presets and a checklist. \nExpect plenty of hand-holding\, clear worksheets\, and time to play. By the end\, you’ll have something you imagined\, ready to hold or view in XR—and the confidence to make another. \nThis event is for the FIT community only.  \n RSVP FOR THE SEPT. 16 SESSION\n  \nNote: This workshop will be offered again on Oct. 9\, at 3 pm.

SUMMARY:Emerging Technology Faculty Workshop: 3D Scanning
DESCRIPTION:Capture the things you love—a shoe\, a sculpture\, a corner of a room—and place them in a small\, navigable scene. We’ll teach a simple photo dance (how many shots\, where to stand\, what light to find) that produces clean results. You’ll see two flavors of capture—traditional meshes and newer “splat/NeRF” looks—and when each makes sense. Then we’ll drop your piece into a ready-made environment\, set scale\, and add just enough light for it to shine. \nThe goal is delight\, not perfection: a fast way to bring the real world into your projects. Expect practical tips\, friendly checklists\, and lots of cheering when your scan first appears. Juliette (Mirror)\, Achrafieh\, Beirut\, Lebanon. 2024. Photo by Rania Matar. \nIn this virtual World Affairs Lecture\, Rania Matar will be in conversation with Dr. Souzeina Mushtaq\, assistant professor of Communication and Media Studies at University of Wisconsin–River Falls\, on the topic of “From the Individual to the Collective: A Search for Identity.” \nRania Matar has dedicated her photographic practice to exploring deeply personal narratives\, drawing upon her multifaceted cultural background and cross-cultural experiences as a Lebanese-born Palestinian-American artist and mother. Her work explores issues of individual and collective identity\, often through photographs of girls and women in the United States and the Middle East. Working in collaboration with her subjects to create intimate\, often emotionally charged portraits\, her work highlights transcendent human experiences and emphasizes underlying similarities rather than apparent differences.  In doing so\, her work provides insight into the complexity of women’s inner lives and relationships. An accomplished artist\, Matar was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2018. \nThe Department of Social Sciences’ World Affairs Lecture Series fulfills FIT’s mission to foster an understanding of diverse cultures and politics within the international as well as domestic perspectives. It also embraces\, supports\, and expands upon the president’s campuswide initiative on civility. \nJoin using this webinar link: \nhttps://fitnyc.webex.com/fitnyc/j.php?MTID=ma7c936c4a07a312ddb11dd6d110e3862 \nWebinar number: 2631 488 9150\nWebinar password: fitnyc (348692 when dialing from a phone or video system) \nOr join by phone: \n+1-646-992-2010 United States Toll (New York City)\nAccess code: 263 148 89150 \nThis virtual event is free and open to the public; join using the Webex link and use the password fitnyc.
