SUMMARY:CitySource Lunch and Learn: Moving From Sample to Production
DESCRIPTION:Join us online to learn during your lunch hour with the CitySource Lunch and Learn Series\, which are held virtually and hosted by FIT’s Center for Continuing and Professional Studies (CCPS) and the Garment District Alliance. \nDid you know that October is Manufacturing Month? It celebrates the industry’s contributions and inspire the next generation of fashion industry innovators. \nIn this session we’ll discuss: Moving From Sample to Production \nScaling up to meet growing orders is one of the biggest challenges for a growing fashion brand. For start-ups in the collection or bridge markets\, where orders can be produced and filled by sample room staff\, managing growth is difficult. Part of the challenge is in growing raw materials resources and part is growing manufacturing. \nThis session will provide insight into planning for this growth\, and how to set milestones and plan to meet them as your brand grows. Included will be how to select raw material sources that can grow with your sales\, as well as how to find production facilities that meet your growing needs. \nTopics we’ll cover: \n\nThe challenges of scaling up\nQuick response—the advantage of small brands\nMatching production order quantities to customer orders\n\nThis event is free and open to the public.  \n REGISTER ON THE CCPS WEBSITE

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Soil to Surface — Closes
DESCRIPTION:Women’s cooperatives in a process of creating a plant-based paper-like material\, and a STUDIO BIRTANE lampshade made using that material. Images courtesy of Birnur Temel Birtane\, MILKist Social Design Center.\nSeptember 24–November 1\, 2026\nArt and Design Gallery \nSoil to Surface highlights the creations of small-scale women farmers\, women’s cooperatives\, and internationally recognized designers from Türkiye\, alongside the work of School of Art and Design students\, faculty\, and alumni at FIT. Proposing an alternative framework where farmers\, craftspeople\, and designers operate on equal ground\, the exhibition sees the FIT community actively reimagining these materials for contemporary design through technical experimentation and innovative thinking. \nAgricultural waste and local textile materials are repositioned in a contemporary context\, allowing multiple narratives to emerge across time and geographies\, while creating new paths for creative businesses to be local\, sustainable\, and value-driven. \nSoil to Surface is realized through a collaboration between MILKist Social Design Center and FIT\, and presented as part of the “Second Harvest” project\, developed in partnership with Anadolu Efes and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Türkiye. \nThis exhibition is free and open to the public.  \n More details at fitnyc.edu/gallery

SUMMARY:Fashion Culture: Suitable: The Sartorial Revolution and the Fashioning of Modern Men
DESCRIPTION:Image: Cover of Suitable courtesy of Oxford University Press.\nTwo hundred and fifty years after the American Revolution\, historian and costume designer Dr. Chloe Chapin traces the evolution of modern men’s suits to answer big questions about fashion. When men adopted plain\, dark\, uniform suits to symbolize rationality and modernity\, they simultaneously cast “fashion” as a superficial\, feminine pursuit. Suitable unpacks this hidden history to explore fundamental ideas about style\, identity\, and the architecture of power. \nA book signing will follow. \nFashion Culture programs are organized by The Museum at FIT to provide new perspectives on the culture of fashion. All programs are free unless otherwise indicated. However\, reservations are strongly encouraged\, as space is limited. See a full calendar of fall 2026 Fashion Culture Program events on the museum website. \nThis event is free and open to the public. \n REGISTER ON THE MFIT WEBSITE

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Architecting the Future of Creative Intelligence — Closes
DESCRIPTION:October 16–November 8\nGoodman Center Lobby \nThe role of the designer is being redefined. As advanced technologies transform the design process\, designers are moving beyond executing production details to become visionaries who shape ideas\, direct systems\, and orchestrate collaboration between humans and AI agents. \nThis exhibition imagines a future where creative intelligence (CI) is measured not by what designers can produce with their own hands\, but by what they can envision\, direct\, and bring to life. Freed from traditional production constraints\, designers can focus on what matters most: asking better questions\, solving bigger problems\, and architecting meaningful solutions that were once beyond the reach of any individual. \nArchitecting the Future of Creative Intelligence is the 2026 Creative Technology and Design Annual Exhibition\, featuring award-winning projects from advanced Creative Technology and Design courses\, including Dynamic Branding\, AI-Assisted Design\, Digital Product Design\, and Kinetic Typography. \nThis exhibition is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Doll Dressing — Closes
DESCRIPTION:oschino Couture (Jeremy Scott)\, trompe l’oeil printed jacket and skirt\, spring 2017\, museum purchases\, 2028.9.1-2.\nSeptember 16–January 3\, 2027\nThe Museum at FIT \nDoll Dressing centers on the longstanding connections between dolls and high fashion. Historically\, dolls operated as miniature fashion models—they were shipped around Europe and abroad\, communicating the latest styles in three-dimensional detail. By the early 20th century\, dolls were not merely sharing the latest trends\, but setting them. Curated by Dr. Colleen Hill\, senior curator of costume\, the exhibition explores the ways in which dolls have influenced fashion and dressed appearance. \nDoll dressing takes many forms\, ranging from the appeal of youthful baby doll dresses\, to the 2D quality of “paper doll” looks\, to the influence of creepy dolls on fashion. It encompasses clothing and accessories\, hair and makeup\, and even movement and gestures that take their cue from dolls. Beginning with a brief history of fashion dolls from the 18h century to the present\, Doll Dressing continues with designs from Marc Jacobs\, Patrick Kelly\, Lanvin\, Jeremy Scott for Moschino\, Martin Margiela\, Anna Sui\, and many others. \n Find out more on the museum website\nThis exhibition is free and open to the public.
