Her work explores issues of individual and collective identity\, often through photographs of girls and women in the United States and the Middle East. Working in collaboration with her subjects to create intimate\, often emotionally charged portraits\, her work highlights transcendent human experiences and emphasizes underlying similarities rather than apparent differences.  In doing so\, her work provides insight into the complexity of women’s inner lives and relationships. An accomplished artist\, Matar was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2018. \nThe Department of Social Sciences’ World Affairs Lecture Series fulfills FIT’s mission to foster an understanding of diverse cultures and politics within the international as well as domestic perspectives. It also embraces\, supports\, and expands upon the president’s campuswide initiative on civility. \nJoin using this webinar link: \nhttps://fitnyc.webex.com/fitnyc/j.php?MTID=ma7c936c4a07a312ddb11dd6d110e3862 \nWebinar number: 2631 488 9150\nWebinar password: fitnyc (348692 when dialing from a phone or video system) \nOr join by phone: \n+1-646-992-2010 United States Toll (New York City)\nAccess code: 263 148 89150 \nThis virtual event is free and open to the public; join using the Webex link and use the password fitnyc.
