SUMMARY:FIT Authors Talks: Kenna Libes on Fashion’s Missing Masses
DESCRIPTION:Kenna Libes\, adjunct instructor in the History of Art\, talks about her book\, Fashion’s Missing Masses: The Representation of Marginalized Populations in Collections and Exhibitions of Dress. \nFashion’s Missing Masses fills a gap in literature on museums and fashion collections and focuses on the display of clothing and fashion that has historically been left out of the canon. The 15 essays in this volume span topics on Indigenous and traditional dress; disabled and fat bodies; and queer and ethnic identities. Their authors study the ways that the associated dress materials have been collected\, displayed\, and passed over across a century and a half of museum exhibitions. \nA book signing will follow the talk. \nRead more on the FIT Authors site. \nThis event is for the FIT community only.  \n RSVP VIA FITLINK

SUMMARY:Fashion Culture: Suitable: The Sartorial Revolution and the Fashioning of Modern Men
DESCRIPTION:Image: Cover of Suitable courtesy of Oxford University Press.\nTwo hundred and fifty years after the American Revolution\, historian and costume designer Dr. Chloe Chapin traces the evolution of modern men’s suits to answer big questions about fashion. When men adopted plain\, dark\, uniform suits to symbolize rationality and modernity\, they simultaneously cast “fashion” as a superficial\, feminine pursuit. Suitable unpacks this hidden history to explore fundamental ideas about style\, identity\, and the architecture of power. \nA book signing will follow. \nFashion Culture programs are organized by The Museum at FIT to provide new perspectives on the culture of fashion. All programs are free unless otherwise indicated. However\, reservations are strongly encouraged\, as space is limited. See a full calendar of fall 2026 Fashion Culture Program events on the museum website. \nThis event is free and open to the public. \n REGISTER ON THE MFIT WEBSITE
