Guided Tour of ‘Dress, Dreams, and Desire’ with Valerie Steele

Please join the Fashion History Club for a guided tour of Dress, Dreams, and Desire: Fashion and Psychoanalysis, led by Dr. Valerie Steele, director and chief curator of The Museum at FIT.
This exhibition is the first of its kind to examine the rich, complex relationship between fashion and psychoanalysis. Drawing on key psychoanalytic concepts related to the body, sexuality, desire, and the unconscious, the show features nearly 100 garments and accessories by designers including Alexander McQueen, Elsa Schiaparelli, Jean Paul Gaultier, Gianni and Donatella Versace, John Galliano for Christian Dior Couture, Rick Owens, Thierry Mugler, Vivienne Westwood, and many others.
Aptly described by fashion critic Suzy Menkes as “the Freud of Fashion,” Dr. Steele brings five years of research to this groundbreaking exhibition, reflecting the museum’s ongoing commitment to original scholarship and innovative thinking about the cultural significance of dress.
Come celebrate the end of the Fall semester with us, we hope to see you there!
This event is for the FIT community only.
